After driving hundred of kilometers around the Faroe Islands we have gathered 8 places really worth seeing.

1. The coast by Vestmanna seen with a boat
The coast from Vestmanna looks like a mix of the landscape in Iceland, Svalbard and a sci-fi movie. It features large cliffs and caves, many different species of birds and tiny houses located in the most remote places imaginable. The captains of the boats in the area have an incredible ability to navigate around the cliffs and caves, so even in poor weather this places can be enjoyed close-up.
2. Tórshavn
Despite being the capital of the Faroe Islands the city of Tórshavn is not like most other capitals. With a mere 13 000 inhabitants this is a small and cosy town with narrow streets and houses that still use sod roofing. By the coast there is a small hilltop with old buildings and a great view of the city and ocean. A bit further north is one of the very few forests in the Faroe Islands as well, although it is an introduced one, as there are no natural forests on the Faroe Islands.
3. Trælanípan
The most iconic photo of the Faroe Islands may be the cliff formation known as Trælanípan. The ocean waves strikes the cliffs that hide the larges lake in the Faroe Islands. Because the lake is at a higher elevation than the ocean, but appears to be connected, it creates some kind of optical illusion. We have written more about this exiting place here.
4. Mulafossur
The most famous waterfall on the Faroe Islands is Mulafossur, probably also the second most iconic photo as well after Trælanípan. Some years back this waterfall was hidden between two mountains, but thanks to a new tunnel it is now relatively accessible by car. If you want to experience a hike in beautiful surroundings it is still possible to walk the old path over the mountain that was used prior to the new tunnel in 2004. No matter how you get here, this place is not to be missed.
5. Kunoy Park
Like Tórshavn the island of Kunoy also has an introduced forest Because it is located in a much more remote area it is a very strange sight. Everything around the forest is barren and this small patch of trees rise out of seemingly nowhere. The road leading to this place is very small and winding and you feel like you are driving towards a dead end until this green forest suddenly rises in the landscape.
6. Saksun
Saksun is a small town with only 30 inhmavitants. At the edge of the town there is a small church and just beyond is a lagoon with a huge beach with black sand. At low tide it is possible to walk along the lagoon towards the coast.
7. Gjógv
If you have browsed photos of the Faroe Islands chances are that you have encountered the small town of Gjógv. The famous spot here, as shown above, is a small gorge forming a kind of miniature fjord. If you wish to enjoy a nice view and relax in quiet surroundings this is the place to go to.
8. The tallest point on the Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are all about exploring nature you don’t get any better views than from the very top. Slættaratindur is the tallest mountain on the Faroe Islands with its 882 meters above sea level and on a good day it shall be possible to see all the 18 islands that make up the Faroe Islands. It takes about an hour to walk from the parking lot to the top, or about 3-4 hours if you wish to start the hike from Gjógv.
