14 countries in 14 photos

Our around the world trip has come to an end and we do unfortunately have to go back to our everyday lives again. Updates will come about what we have done, but in the meantime we have picked one photo to show you from each country we have visited.

Peru

In an attempt to be a bit original we will not show a photo of Machu Picchu! Instead we  have chosen the Andean mountains along the Inca Trail leading to Machu Picchu. This is a great hike that should be experienced at least once in life. We have written more about it here.

USA

With two days in Los Angeles we have not seen a lot of the US, but we did manage to stumble upon some recent political news. Here is a photo from Hollywood ‘a Walk of Fame where Donald Trump’s star was destroyed. A man stands guard nearby to ensure that no further damage is being done.

Japan

Again we try not to choose the most obvious photo, so instead of Shibuya Square we have chosen a photo of Hamarikyu Gardens located next to the largest wholesale fish market in the world. We have written more about that here.

Federated States of Micronesia

The tiny micro nation in the Pacific Ocean gave us one of the best shots of the trip. Amazing snorkeling areas and lush, green forest everywhere was an amazing sight. FSM is one of the weirdest countries we have visited, something we wrote about here.

Vietnam

For once we will pick a classic photo. Ha Long Bay is and remains a wonderful place to visit!

Cambodia

Angkor Wat is one of the most impressive structures we have seen. Cambodia has a lot more to offer than “just” Angkor Wat, but seeing it is worth the trip alone.

Thailand

Bangkok isn’t exactly known for its nature and wildlife, but this photo is in fact taken in the center of the city. Bang Krachao is a green lung in the otherwise very urban city.

Qatar

The view from the old part of Doha overlooking the new one is a wonderful sight. Behind the camera are buildings in classic style, while what is shown here is the modern center with skyscrapers defining the skyline.

South Africa

Table Mountain is probably South Africa’s most famous mountain, but located right next to it is Lion’s Head, a mountain with a great view of Cape Town. It is also possible to find Wally’s Cave here, a “secret” cave facing Table Mountain.

Namibia

Etosha National Park was one of our Southern African highlights. After waiting for half an hour or more and taking almost 100 photos we managed to secure this one shot as the sun was going down. The cheetah is stretching in the afternoon before it wanders off to catch today’s dinner.

Botswana

We paddled through the Okawango Delta in small canoes when a hippo suddenly appeared in front of us. It was at a distance of around 200 meters, which felt very close! It didn’t seem to like us and splashed the water and showed us its huge mouth. Naturally we decided to pull out of the area before the hippo decided to get really up-close, but we managed to snap this photo first.

Zambia

Victoria Falls is without any doubt Zambia’s most famous tourist attraction and an easy choice for our photo. It was also the only thing we had time to see in Zambia, so we didn’t have much of a choice.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is also known for Victoria Falls, but for us the most amazing experience was tracking rhinos on foot in Matobo National Park. White rhinos are slightly less aggressive than black rhinos, making it possible to get close to them without going on a suicide mission. It was still not entirely safe and we got a safety brief and instructions, but it was safe enough for us to approach this rhino and get within 20 meters of it.

The Nederlands

We had only 1 day in the Netherlands, not to mention nothing but an iPhone to take pictures with. Therefore the last and final image is quite classic and simple.
