2022 Travel Year

2022 has come to an end and we look back at what we did last year.

In 2021 we wrote about how the pandemic lasted longer than expected and that we never really got going travelling again. 2022 was also a surprisingly quiet year, primarily due to a new house we purchased. Suddenly both time and money was poured into this project. However, we did manage to do some travelling, most notably going across the big pond.

Local trip to Lysefjorden

At the very beginning of the year we published an article from the local area where we tested a new pair of binoculars. This was the first time we wrote a sponsored post, something that was a positive experience. The trip and the gear we tested can be found here (sponsored article).

USA and the Caribbean

In 2021 we booked a cruise in the Caribbean with a roadtrip in the US beforehand. When the covid restrictions in the US continued into 2022 we got quite nervous, but thankfully the rules were relaxed right before we bordered the plane.

The first flight took us to the midwest, where we landed in Chicago. From there we drove to an amish town, visited one of the largest rollercoaster parks in the world, strolled around the Henry Ford Museum and visited some relatives.

Don’t ask how, but we met someone running a train museum and got a private ride in one of the trains on their very own railway. Chu-chu says the locomotive (and Tora)!

Afterwards we flew to Miami and spent a few days at the beautiful beaches before boarding a cruise ship into the Caribbean. Originally we were supposed to go all the way down to the ABC islands, but bad weather changed our plans. Still, we got to visit Haiti (barely), The Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Bahamas. More about this in a future article.

Local trips

Thankfully there was time for a few local trips in 2022. Among others we discovered a place called Knaben, a nice area for hiking, as well as being filled with underground mining tunnels.

2022 in numbers

Finally we have gathered some statistics related to our trips in 2022:

  • 5 countries visited (in addition to Norway), including 1 new country.
  • 10 flights have been undertaken.
  • Over 1000 km driven on road trips.
  • 27 hours spent in the air.
  • 19742 km flown.
  • More than 4000 photos taken.
  • Countless good memories!

Next year

We will definitively travel in 2023, but a lot of that will be back and forth to our new house, which is a five hour drive away. Still we hope to make one larger trip this summer. Initially we looked at going to Greenland, but the prices are a bit too high at the moment. We also consider Svalbard, travelling around the archipelago with Hurtigruten is high on our bucket list. But during the summer some sun and warmth is not to be ignored, so we might end up booking a trip to Madeira.

In our new house we try to include memories and elements from our travels. Currently we are currently building a wine cellar (as one must do), where we’ll include wine barrels with art from our trips. And we’ll probably post a few updates from that in the near future too.
